St Margaret's students hungry for the arts
7 May 2011
Students from St Margaret's contemplated “Food, Glorious Food”, or perhaps the lack thereof, during three performances of the musical “Oliver!” this week.
The musical has been produced thanks to the efforts of 68 St Margaret's students from Years 8 to 12 involved in the cast, crew and orchestra, as well as another 17 Art students who prepared the sets.
Principal, Ros Curtis, hoped students enjoyed the experience of participating in and watching the performances, while gaining some useful lessons.
“Oliver! is a great musical, and I am happy to see so many of our students participating in the production,” said Ms Curtis.
“It is another way for students become actively involved in, and engage with their learning,” she said.
“It is also a way for members of our supportive and enthusiastic community to become involved in the life of the School.
“We have been very fortunate in benefiting from the efforts of staff members, parents, and the Music Support Group, who have helped to create an amazing theatre production."
Based on the timeless classic written by Charles Dickens, translated for performance by Lionel Bart, the musical tells the story of a young orphan’s misadventures as he is expelled from an orphanage, sent to work for an undertaker, and then inducted into a gang of criminal youths.
Three performances of the musical were conducted on 5, 6 and 7 May at the Iona Performing Arts Centre, 85 North Road, Lindum.
Congratulations and thank you to all involved.
