News and Events > News > Flood Appeal Letter from the Principal

Dear Members of the St Margaret’s Community

I am sorry that one of my earliest communications with the St Margaret’s community relates to a very
sad situation, namely the destructive floods presently sweeping Queensland. Some of our families have
been very affected by this devastating natural disaster, losing treasured possessions, household items,
crops, stock, machinery and infrastructure.

Therefore, I am appealing to our families to support the school in offering some very practical assistance
to our boarders. A number of our boarders have lost uniforms and clothes. We are asking all members of
our school community if they could please donate clothing which is in very good condition – specifically,
school uniforms, shoes and casual clothes for our boarders. The clothing should be appropriate for
students between the ages of 12 – 17 years. The collection of these goods will take place from 17th January
to 21st January in the Arts Centre Foyer. Any items which we receive which cannot be used by our
boarders will be donated to another agency assisting flood victims.

If you would prefer to provide financial support for our families, the School Foundation is currently
establishing a scholarship fund. Tax deductible donations to this fund could be used to provide some
financial assistance with fees for students from flood affected areas. Please contact the School’s Business
Manager for further information about this initiative.

If you are reading this and have been affected by the floods, I also want to let you know that the school
will do what it can to support you. We understand that different families will have different needs.
Therefore, we ask that when you are able, please contact us to let us know how we can help. As time goes
on, ways the school can assist may become clearer. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need our
help.

Over the next couple of weeks, as all members of staff return to school for the 2011 academic year, we
will be discussing what we can do to provide emotional and practical support to your daughters as they
return to school.

Please keep our affected families, past and present, in your thoughts and prayers during this time and
thank you for supporting our Boarding Community.
