Moving Year 7 to Secondary School in 2014

St Margaret's Anglican Girls School is delighted to advise that from 2014, Year 7 will become part of the Secondary School. The timing of this change has been chosen as this cohort will be the first group to be affected by the change in the starting age of Prep in 2007. Therefore in 2013, to help in the transition of both Year 6 and Year 7 as they move towards the 2014 school year, both these groups will share leadership opportunities, one semester each. From 2014 onwards, the Year 6 students will occupy the leadership positions in the Primary School.

As an independent girls' school catering for students from Pre Prep to Year 12, St Margaret's is in a unique position to respond to the change in age of these year groups by providing a seamless transition through wide subject choices, including extension and enrichment opportunities, as well as a wide range of co-curricular activities. From 2014, St Margaret's will also offer Boarding for Year 7.

Why is the change being made?

  • Specialised teaching - The change will allow greater opportunities for your daughter to benefit from teachers who are specialists in their given areas.
  • Age appropriate - The move to Year 7 into the Secondary School will create a learning environment suitable for the development age of your daughter.
  • Evolution - This change is the next logical step in the evolution of teaching stemming from the change in age and introduction of a national curriculum.

St Margaret's will continue to maintain all the benefits of our small school environment with limits on class sizes and the overall school enrolment.

Enquiries in relation to this initiative may be directed to our Registrar, Mrs Delia Eastland.
