Co-Curricular Activities > Cultural > Sharemarket Game
Students in Years 8 to 12 trade shares online over a ten week period using the Australian Stock Exchange website (asx.com). Student teams (called syndicates) take an imaginary $50,000 and invest in shares in the top 100 ASX companies.
The game does not require students to have any prior knowledge of share trading.
Students take part in two pre-trading discussions during which they learn the fundamental structure of the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) and how to trade company shares.
Students take part in weekly discussion sessions at School, and have access to a range of educational materials both in class and on the ASX website to help them begin to learn how to ‘value’ company share price and how to ‘read’ markets.
Students learn how to place ‘at market’ and ‘at limit’ orders online at anytime through the ASX game website. Orders are executed when the real sharemarket is open.
Students are able to track their progress against syndicates from other schools across the country.
