Supervision

The role of all Boarding House Staff is primarily one of carers and the emphasis is on working together as a team – parents, boarders and staff – to meet the needs of boarders and their families.

The Head of Boarding plays a very significant role in ensuring that the quality of the experiences the girls enjoy within the Boarding House and the level of pastoral and personal care is high. It is the responsibility of the Head of Boarding to monitor the relationships between the staff and students, and students alike, in support of the School’s expectations that the girls feel happy, safe and supported in the Boarding House environment.

The Boarding Coordinators oversee, on a day to day basis, the operational needs of their respective Houses. The Boarding Coordinator is primarily the first point of contact for parents, hosts and faculty and is responsible for authorising leave arrangements. Any leave should be discussed directly with them.

The House Mothers are responsible for the supervision of the girls when they return home from school, through the afternoon and evening to bed time. They supervise study, the dorms, the dining hall and weekends. Their accommodation is in the dorms close to the boarders.

Junior Boarding Supervisors work with the House Mothers to oversee supervision in the Boarding House, and provide extra support and care for the girls. Junior Boarding Supervisors attend and supervise recreational activities. St Margaret’s has both live in and external Junior Supervisors.

Staff in the Boarding House Reception provides girls with all administrative matters, including handing in passports, airline tickets etc at the beginning or term, access pocket money, send or receive faxes.

The Boarding House Reception is opened:

Monday to Friday

7:00am to 8:00pm

Saturday and Sunday

6:30am – 7:00pm

Study

An effective student is one who manages a good balance between her study time and leisure time.

In the Boarding House there are specific, supervised study times to enable everyone to work without interruption for a certain time each evening. Many girls will need to spend some other time on homework as well. On the weekends, girls are expected to keep dormitory areas reasonably quiet in order to allow girls to study if they wish.

It is important that as few interruptions as possible occur during the supervised Prep time. Good regular study routines are most helpful for good results.
